Working with a cross-functional team from UTA, we developed a long-term strategy for the implementation of microtransit across the UTA-service area. The study analyzed potential cost, ridership, and quality of service under diﬀerent scenarios. Three key use cases for microtransit were explored: first and last-mile trips, community transportation, and off-peak coverage.
Identiﬁed 20 potential microtransit zones across the region.
Simulated each zone to understand the costs and benefits of implementation.
Developed criteria to guide UTA in prioritizing microtransit zones for implementation, creating a roadmap for future expansions of microtransit that will be seamlessly integrated into UTAs existing bus and rail network.
Mountain Metropolitan Transit
Colorado Springs, Colorado
We analyzed the feasibility of operating alternative transit models to provide more attractive and flexible mobility options to customers and to attract new passengers from single occupancy vehicles. The goal: reduce costs by matching their service’s supply with rider demand.
Developed a range of innovative transit alternatives and provided financial cost estimates and implementation guides to ensure smooth and cost-effective operations.
Analyzed transit ridership and service efficiency data to identify underperforming routes, and Census socioeconomic data to identify communities underserved by transit.
Included interviews with dozens of agencies across the US to glean lessons for each transportation mode evaluated.
South Alabama Regional Planning Commission
Mobile County, Alabama
In partnership with the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission (SARPC), we conducted a feasibility study of various transit alternatives in the areas of Mobile County.
Created an assessment of transit needs and potential across the rural and lower-density areas of Mobile County.
Engaged key public, private, and non-profit stakeholders to better understand the demand for transit and the level of potential support for a new service.
Developed and simulated alternative service models, and a cost-benefit analysis to guide SARPC in its decision making process.
